WESTERN CAPE – The Hawks Serious Organised Crime team in Cape Town with the assistance of Crime Intelligence, K9 Unit Boland and officials from Department of Forestry Fisheries and Environmental (DFFE) arrested seven suspects aged between 27-43 for possession of abalone worth over R1.4 million at 13:05 yesterday.

The multi disciplinary team reacted on information about a vehicle that was used in the transporting of illegal abalone which led the team to a premises where they observed the vehicle being offloaded and seized dried abalone.

22 872 units (202.95 Kg) of dried abalone with a street value of R 1.4 million was seized and seven suspects were arrest.

The seven suspects arrested are expected to appear in the Kuilsrivier Magistrate Court on 16 August 2021.
