Hong Kong – Eighteen of the 20 people, injured when a South African Airways (SAA) flight experienced severe turbulence, have been discharged from hospital.

“SAA would like to advise that 18 of the 20 people injured whilst on board SA286 from Johannesburg to Hong Kong have now been discharged from hospital,” said SAA spokesperson Tlali Tlali on Wednesday night.

Two passengers who sustained serious injuries remain in hospital for observation.

Flight SA286, an Airbus A340-300 aircraft departed from Johannesburg on Tuesday afternoon. The aircraft experienced turbulence on route to Hong Kong and 20 people (17 passengers and three crew) were injured.

As a result of the incident involving SA286, flight SA287 from Hong Kong to Johannesburg on Wednesday was delayed.
