The IFP Women’s Brigade calls on government to ensure that older people’s rights are upheld and defended as we commemorate the International Day of Older Persons.

“Older people’s rights must be upheld and defended. They must be protected from discrimination and abuse. We condemn in the strongest terms allegations of the killing of older men and women because of witchcraft and we demand that government look into these killings immediately,” said IFP Women’s Brigade National Chairperson, Mrs Thembeni kaMadlopha-Mthethwa.

“We further call for the establishment of an Older Persons Board to come up with a working definition of older person’s abuse and seriously consider working with various organisations to find relevant solutions,” concluded Mrs KaMadlopha-Mthethwa.

The IFP Women’s Brigade would like to send its best wishes to all senior citizens as we commemorate the International Day of Older Persons.
