MPUMALANGA – Warren Brett Smith (48) appeared in the Nelspruit Special Commercial Crime Court on Monday, 30 August 2021 after he was arrested by members of the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Investigation team the same day for fraud, theft and money laundering. The accused was granted a R10 000 bail and the matter was postponed to 01 October 2021 for an appointment of legal representative.

It is alleged that in February 2019, the suspect who was in a relationship with the main suspect in this matter, Carol Ann Event who was employed as a bookkeeper for Trans Collection CC fraudulently transferred more than R 644 811 from the business accountt into his personal bank account for renting/leasing and purchasing of property in Kwa-Zulu Natal. The other money was transferred into her relatives’ accounts who are already arrested, causing and prejudicing the company R11.5 million.

Avent and other seven accused’ matter was postponed to 15 November 2021 at the Specialised Commercial Crime Court for trial where they will be joined by Smith.
