EASTERN CAPE – A foreign national, Johan Turyamureba (25) was remanded in custody after his court appearance on 30 August 2021 for charges of contravention of Medicines and related substances Act.
The East London based Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau in conjunction with the East London Crime Intelligence Gathering arrested Johan for allegations of selling Cytotec tablets to members of the community in East London. Cytocec tablets are under Schedule 4 category under the Medicine and related substances which is only dealt, sold and distributed by a registered medical practitioners or pharmacists.
It is reported that between 17 and 27 August 2021, three successful purchases of the tablets were conducted during clandestine operation. 26 tablets and R4500 were confiscated. The matter was remanded to 13 September 2021 for a formal bail application.
