The Hawks’ Tactical Operation Management Section (TOMS) in conjunction with the National Investigation Unit (NINU) have arrested a 30-year-old Joshua Bomba Shongwane who has been on the wanted list for the murder of Captain Lamola whom he shot and killed at Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on 12 October 2016.

Bomba who was out on bail on another murder charge, was rearrested for armed robbery and when he was about to appear in court, a scuffle ensued between him and police officers. Bomba shot and killed the officer before escaping.

TOMS and NINU have since been on his radar and on Monday Bomba’s luck ran out as he was arrested at his hiding spot in Eerstruste, Pretoria. He was found in possession an Audi A1 which was found to have been hijacked in KwaThema, Springs in September this year.

The National Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Lieutenant General Mthandazo Ntlemeza has praised the TOMS and NINU teams for following every piece of information which led them to the arrest of the cop-killing suspect. He reiterated his words that whoever kills a police will be hunted down and be put behind bars.

“No one kills a police officer and enjoys piece of mind. People who threaten the security of our state by killing police officers will be hunted down and we will ensure that they face the full wrath of the law. Well done to our members who put their lives in danger in their quest to rid the country of all dangerous criminals”, said Lieutenant General Ntlemeza.

Bomba will appear before the Tembisa Magistrates Court on Tuesday facing charges of murder, hijacking, escaping from custody, possession of unlicensed firearm and possession of a hijacked motor vehicle.
