NORTH WEST – Two suspects aged 28 and 43 were arrested on Friday for allegedly attempting to bribe an investigation officer with R10 000.
In return, they were hoping to retrieve a truck that was recovered by the Rustenburg Cluster Trio Task team on Monday which was fully loaded with 995 boxes of illicit cigarettes worth approximately R9.9 Million.
The truck was recovered at a guest house in Boshoek and the matter was handed over to the North West Serious Organised Crime Investigation of the which subsequently seized the truck and proceeded with the investigations.
Surprisingly, the investigation officer was contacted by a person who alleged that he wanted to make the case go away by offering to pay a bribe. Two suspects arrived at the Rustenburg Hawks offices at noon of Friday with R10 000 cash, resulting in their immediate arrest.
The pair will appear at the Rustenburg Magistrates Court today facing charges of defeating the ends of justice and bribery.
