Kimberley- The Northern Cape Hawks welcomed the court outcomes against four suspects sentenced for illegal mining.

Ayanda Booi (29), Fikile Sixeshe (37), Monwabisi Vincent Ntsham (46), Kwenza Ndlovu (40) were arrested for illegal mining on 24 April 2016 on De Beers mining area in Kleinzee. Upon the arrest, their mining implements were seized.

They first appeared in court on 26 April 2016 and were released on warning with stringent bail conditions. The Port Nolloth Magistrate’s Court found them guilty of trespassing and illegal mining On 29 November 2016.

They were all sentenced to 12 months imprisonment or pay R6000 fine. Additionally, they were sentenced to 6 months imprisonment or R2000 fine, suspended for five years on condition that they do commit similar offences during this said period.
