KWAZULU-NATAL – Three suspects appeared in Mahlabathini Magistrate’s Court, Ulundi, on Thursday following their arrest by members of Ulundi crime prevention for alleged destruction of infrastructure.

On Wednesday, 22 January 2020, members from Ulundi crime prevention unit received the information about people who were busy digging the gas pipes at Ezihlabeni.

The three, Menzi Maduna (36), Brilliant Maile (29), from Mpumalanga, and Njabulo Mthembu (26), from Ulundi were allegedly found in possession of a generator, grinder, hammer and other equipment, which were seized by the officials. The suspects were using a white Toyota fortuner with a GP registration as a getaway vehicle during the execution of their alleged criminal activities.

Following further investigation by the Hawks’ Richardsbay Serious Organised Crime Investigation team, it transpired that the suspects believed they were digging up a petrol pipe. The case is remanded to 31 January 2020 for bail application and the 3 suspects remain in custody until their next court appearance.
