KWAZULU-NATAL – Hawks members from Durban Serious Organised Crime unit have arrested two suspects aged 18 and 25 for murder of a police official which happened at Cornubia area in Verulam on Sunday.

It is alleged Sergeant Nduduzo Sibiya (36) who was station at ORS Durban Harbour was stabbed and killed after helping a female who was being assaulted. The suspects allegedly followed the Sergeant and stabbed him before robbing him of his service pistol. He was taken to hospital for medical attention but was declared dead on arrival. A case of murder was reported at Verulam police station and the case docket was allocated to Hawks members for further investigation.

In the early hours of this morning members proceeded to Bergville where the two suspects were allegedly hiding. They were arrested and charged for murder as well as robbery. They are expected to appear in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
The KwaZulu-Natal Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Provincial Head, Major General Leseja Senona welcomed the arrest of the suspects. “Our members will not rest until the firearm of the late Sergeant is found and removed from the wrong hands,” he said.
