WESTERN CAPE – Solomon Sauls (49), who is already serving jail time entered into a plea agreement with the State and has been further sentenced yesterday by the Cape Town High Court for a string of charges emanating from dealing in abalone.
The hefty sentence includes 16 counts for contraventions of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (POCA), 22 counts of the Marine Living Resources Act and two counts of money laundering.
The High Court ordered that in respect of counts 2 to 41, the sentences are to run concurrently with the term of imprisonment imposed on him in respect of count 1. This was in view of the fact that Sauls is already serving jail time on a similar Riviersonder matter. Sauls will effectively serve an eighteen (18) years imprisonment.
