Pretoria – The Hawks’ Task Team entrusted with the investigation of police killings had made a breakthrough in the murder of Lieutenant Colonel Renier Lourens Lagois (51) who was shot fourteen times at his home in Rietondale, Pretoria a fortnight ago.

The investigation led to the arrest of Constable Rishen Rampashard who is stationed at Pretoria West police station. Lt Col Lagois’s vehicle, which was hijacked during his killing, was found abandoned seven kilometres away from the scene.

Constable Rampashard was arrested on Friday last week and appeared before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday. He was remanded in custody and his case was postponed to 08 February 2016 for formal bail application.

In another police killing matter two suspects have been arrested for the killing of Warrant Sipho Sithole who was stationed at Assen police station in Letlhabile Location in North West.

The officer was in his vehicle when he was approached by three men who shot him on the chest and fled with his Red VW Polo in November 2015. He was rushed to hospital where he died two day after the incident. His vehicle was later found abandoned in Soshanguve, Pretoria.

Samuel Marothi Maphanga (24) and Luca Ndoda Mathibefazi (39) were arrested and appeared before the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Monday, facing charges of murder of a police officer. They were remanded in custody and will be in the dock again on 05 February 2015. The Hawks are Hot on the heels of the third suspect.
