NORTHERN CAPE – A 26 year old constable is expected to appear in the Sringbok Magistrate’s Court on Friday for alleged theft of a firearm at his station.
The said firearm was allegedly stolen at Kleinsee SAPS on Friday, 07 August 2020, from the storage facility. Preliminary investigation revealed that there was no forced entry into the storeroom which suggested that a key was used to gain entry into the facility. Further probing led to the discovery of an assortment of ammunition and magazines wrapped in an envelope outside the station.
The Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation team was summoned to intervene and consequently followed up on leads about a firearm that was allegedly hidden at a house in Okiep, Springbok. The team proceeded to the identified house in the company of Public Order members. The resultant search of the house uncovered the missing .38 revolver in one of the bedrooms belonging to the constable, he was then arrested and charged.
