NELSPRUIT – A 23 year-old young man is due to appear before the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Monday 26 April 2021, after an incident which occurred at KaMaqhekeza near Komatipoort, in which two people were shot and killed on Thursday, 22 April 2021. The appearance of the suspect stems from the fact that after the incident, he handed himself to police as the one who killed the victims.
The suspect told police that a scuffle broke between two groups which culminated into a physical fight. He then snatched a firearm from another man and shot the two victims thereafter fled the scene.
The suspect surrendered himself as well as the firearm to the authorities at Tonga Police Station a day later.
Meanwhile police are looking for a suspect following an incident where a 43 year old man died at Lydenburg Hospital mysteriously earlier today, Sunday 25 April 2021. It is said that the man was somehow assaulted then brought to hospital to receive medical assistance. After the man’s death, a certain man was reportedly assaulted by members of the community accusing him for the death of the victim. Police rescued him and he is currently held by police for questioning.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Major General Thulani Phahla is encouraging people to use other peaceful ways in settling disagreements. ” We urge members of the public not to take the law upon themselves but to resolve matters in a lawful manner rather than resorting to violence which often results in the loss of life, ” said General Phahla.
