DURBAN: 18 April 2021 – On Friday, 16 April 2021 police officers received information about a group of men who were on route to remove copper cables on a railway line in Umhlali.
The team conducted observation until yesterday morning. At 06:00, a group of suspects emerged from the bushes near the railway line and upon seeing the police officers, they ran back into the bush. A search was conducted in the bush and a 33-year-old man was placed under arrest for tampering and damaging essential infrastructure.
During his arrest, it was established that the suspect is a security guard working on the railway line. Stolen copper was seized from the suspect. The estimated street value of the recovered copper is R52 425-00. The suspect is expected to appear before the KwaDukuza Magistrates Court tomorrow.
