First month of New Year and farm murders continue unabated
“With a farm murder on the last day of last year, and the first farm murder for 2015 early in the New Year, it is clear that this scourge is continuing unabated,” says Christian Democratic Party (CDP) leader, Rev. Theunis Botha.
“With the murder of 67 year old Johan Fourie, on his farm outside Sasolburg in the Free State, and the murder of Mr Stick Green, of Estcourt, KwaZulu Natal, who was shot in the stomach, we are once again reminded of how vulnerable our farmers are to these cold blooded murders. Mr Mchunu, MEC, described Mr Green’s murder as ‘shocking’.
“Over the same period, an invalid farmer was thrown out of his wheel chair, assaulted and made to endure 15 minutes of racist slurs from his attackers.
“The CDP questions the lack of urgency with which the government in addressing this serious problem and once again urges them to declare farm murders a ‘priority crime’.
“The CDP yet again express their sincere condolences with the affected families.”
