FREE STATE- Lebohang Rufus Masia (38) appeared before the Bethlehem Magistrates’ Court on Thursday,11 February 2021 where he was convicted and sentenced for robbery with aggravating circumstances.
His sentence emanates from an incident which took place on 24 July 2017 in Bethlehem where Masia and other three suspects who are still at large were involved in a cash in transit (CIT) heist. They pointed a G4S security guard with a firearm and robbed him a cash amount of more than R224 000 as well as his service firearm. They fled the scene in two vehicles which were later found abandoned in Bethlehem.
Hawks’ investigation led to the arrest of Masia on 30 November 2019 at Lebombo Port of Entry whilst he was trying to flee the country. He appeared in court on several occasions until he was sentenced to 10 years direct imprisonment.
