GAUTENG – A 59 year old, Nello Quagliani was remanded in custody by two courts on allegations of illegal dealings in drugs and possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition, and drugs on Thursday and Friday respectively.
Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team in Germiston acted swiftly on intelligence received regarding suspicious drug dealings at a residential complex in Maroeladal, near Fourways on Tuesday, 13 April.
Police proceeded to a courier company in Jet Park east of Johannesburg where the suspect allegedly dropped off a parcel declared as foodstuff destined for Cape Town. Upon searching the packaged brown box, authorities found suspected drugs with an estimated street value of R120 000.
The investigation team successfully traced and intercepted the suspect’s vehicle on N3 towards Randburg and proceeded to his house. On arrival during the search, two unlicensed firearms and ammunition were recovered in the house as well as R14 300 in cash which were confiscated as evidence.
The suspect was arrested and charged with illegal drug dealings, possession of drugs, unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Quagliani appeared in the Boksburg Magistrates Court on illegal dealings in drugs charges and Randburg Magistrates Court for possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition, and drugs.
Both cases were postponed to 21 April 2021 for formal bail application.
