KWAZULU-NATAL – Hawks members from Serious Organised Crime unit arrested a 35-year-old suspect for cash in transit robbery which happened at Empangeni last month.
It is alleged that security guards were delivering cash at Central Park when they were accosted by armed suspects. The suspects robbed them of their service firearms and undisclosed amount of cash. They then fled the scene in their getaway vehicle which was later found abandoned near Port Dunford.
A case of cash in transit robbery was reported at Empangeni police station and the case docket was allocated to Hawks members from Richards Bay Serious Organised Crime unit for intensive investigation. On Wednesday 12 May 2021, members successfully traced and arrested the suspect who was part of the robbers.
He was charged for cash in transit robbery and is expected to appear in the Empangeni Magistrate’s Court today.
The KwaZulu-Natal Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Provincial Head, Major General Leseja Senona applauded the investigating team for the arrest of the suspect. “Members will persist with the trace of his accomplices until they are all brought to book,” he said.
