A multi-disciplinary approach between SAPS Anti Hijacking Team, JMPD and Tracker yielded results when three suspects between ages of 18 and 43 were arrested in connection with a hijacking that occurred in Naturena, south of Johannesburg on the 9th of March 2020 at about 20:00. The victim was approached by two suspects who pointed her with a firearm. They grabbed and pushed her, took her vehicle, cellphone and other belongings and drove away.
The Anti-hijacking team followed up on information which led to the arrest of the suspects while in possession of the hijacked VW Polo in Eldorado Park.
In another incident, a vehicle was hijacked in Glen Vista, also in the south of Johannesburg on the 9th of March 2020 at about 21:15. The suspects robbed the victim of his Toyota bakkie, cellphone and bank cards. They withdrew money at different ATMs while driving around with the victim.
An investigation was conducted and it led to the arrest of a 32-year-old suspect from Eldorado Park.
The Station Commander of Mondeor congratulated the team for their determination, cooperation and hard work that resulted in these arrests. He emphasized that the Law Enforcement Agents will continue to work together in ensuring that perpetrators of crime are brought to book.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Booysens Magistrate court on charges of hijacking, theft and possession of stolen property.
