POTCHEFSTROOM: 24 August 2021 – A 42-year-old Nancy Majonhi was remanded in custody when she appeared in the Mogwase Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 23 August 2021, for the brutal murder of her husband. Majonhi was staying with her husband, Prosper Chipungare, (now deceased) at a rented room in Ledig near Sun City when they had a fight on Tuesday, 28 July 2015. The husband was allegedly assaulted with a hammer until he fainted. According to the information received, the accused hacked the then 44-year-old victim, with a spade and threw the parts into three different pit latrines. Thereafter, she thoroughly cleaned the place and went to Sun City police station where she reported that her husband was missing.
Subsequently, the accused departed to Zimbabwe where she only confessed earlier this month, to her family and in-laws that she killed her husband. The families arranged to come to South Africa, Sun City where the accused handed herself over to the police. The accused will make a second court appearance on Thursday, 26 August 2021. Investigation into the matter is underway and the police managed to retrieve a skull and bones which will be subjected to DNA tests.
