EASTERN CAPE : A 43-year-old woman is expected to appear on Thursday at the Bizana Magistrate court after she arrested for allegedly defrauding the local municipality of approximately R2 million.
The suspect was arrested on Tuesday by Mthatha Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime in the Gauteng province where she is employed by the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development.
The suspects was employed by the Bizana Local Municipality as a Senior Cashier from 2008 to 2011. Her duties included receiving payments from the public for renewal of vehicle licences. It is alleged that she used some of these payments for personal use. The total amount she allegedly defrauded the municipality from 2008 to 2011 is approximately R2 million.
