Pretoria – Two investigating officers attached to Thohoyandou police station who were arrested on Wednesday last week for corruption and defeating the ends of justice are still behind bars after they were remanded in custody by the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court last Thursday.
Constables Tshifhiwa Muvhango and Takalani Mulaudzi, aged 33 and 34 years respectively, allegedly went to the house of a man who was charged with drunken driving and found his wife as he was in Gauteng.
The two officers then called the man and told him to rush home before Good Friday and give them R1 500 so that they could destroy the evidence of blood samples, which would lead to the dismissal of the case.
The man obliged and rushed home the same day with the cash. The Hawks were tipped off and as soon as the transaction was made at Thohoyandou Spar, the two men of law were nabbed.
They will be in the dock again on 31 March 2016 when they will make a formal bail application.
