Pretoria– A police Warrant Officer and his colleague, a Sergeant, who are stationed at Mangaung Detective Services will appear before the Hertzogville Magistrate’s Court today (Wednesday) following their arrest on Tuesday after they were caught in the act of soliciting a bribe.

The two were investigating a case of theft of a tractor and instead of doing their duties by the book they approached the suspect and demanded R100 000 so that they could destroy the case. The suspect gave in to their demands and gave the officers R30 000, with a promise to settle the balance at a later date.

On Tuesday Anti-Corruption unit of the Hawks got the information that the two officers were on their way to Hertzogville to collect the bribe money. The police officers, who allegedly had used a state vehicle illegally for their shenanigans, were arrested at a bank, with R70 000 cash in their possession. The suspects have been charged with corruption and soliciting a bribe.
