KWAZULU-NATAL – On Thursday 19 May 2022, Hawks members from Durban Serious Organised Crime Investigation working together with Crime Intelligence, Special Task Force, Hostage Negotiation unit and Inanda Detectives arrested two suspects for kidnapping which happened at Inanda area on Wednesday.
It is alleged that a 13-year-old victim was forcefully taken by three unknown suspects whilst he was on his way to school. The suspects also took the driver of the vehicle that was picking up the victim and put him in the boot. The driver was later released at Emachobeni , Inanda.
A case of Kidnapping was reported at Inanda police station and Hawks members were alerted. A joint operation was swiftly conducted and the search ensued. The suspects demanded R1 million rand from the mother of the victim. R90 000.00 was paid to the suspect but they never gave back the child.
A search continued and two suspects were arrested at Lindelani area near Ntuzuma. Their arrest led to the rescue of the victim in one of the informal settlement at Ntuzuma. R90 000.00 was recovered and the vehicle that was used in the commission of crime was also seized.
The two suspects aged 28 and 29 will be charged for kidnapping and are expected to appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrate Court on Monday, 23 May 2022.
