Three suspects wounded, arrested in shootout with police officers in Greenstone Hill, Gauteng
Gauteng: Friday 2017-07-07: Today at about 13:00, SAPS members from the Crime Intelligence Head Office task team followed up on information which led them to the Edenvale area in Gauteng.
The police members, supported by the Gauteng Traffic Saturation Unit, private security and Tracker, observed suspects in the Greenstone Hill area near the Greenstone Mall and approached them . As the law enforcement team identified themselves and tried to stop the vehicle, the suspects opened fire on the officers who returned fire . Three suspects were wounded and arrested.
Two unlicensed firearms and a suspected hijacked vehicle, linked to a Brackendowns case, were recovered on the scene. The suspects are in their twenties and thirties and were taken to hospital for medical attention under police guard.
Cases of possession of unlicensed firearms as well as possession of suspected hijacked motor vehicle have been opened for investigation. The suspects will appear in court in due course.
The South African Police Service has prioritised the trio crimes of house robbery, business robbery and vehicle hijacking and the team is commended on the arrest of these suspects.
