A Tanzanian national Karim Mussa Kondo, 27, has been sentenced to six years direct imprisonment by the Kempton Park Magistrates Court for drug dealing and bribery last Thursday.

Kondo was arrested early this year after landing at the OR Tambo International Airport from Dar es Salaam. A routine search of his luggage by the Hawks team and customs revealed that he had concealed approximately 40kg of ephedrine drugs with an estimated value of over R2.6 million.

Upon this discovery, Kondo unsuccessfully tried to bribe the authorities with R5000, resulting in an added charge of bribery.

The National Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Lieutenant General Mthandazo Ntlemeza welcomed the Conviction warning would be traffickers, “Our eyes and ears are everywhere, just when you think you are home and dry, you will be next” he said.
