NORTH WEST – Six suspects aged between 37 and 53 were arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation assisted by members of Tactical Response Team (TRT) and Air wing on Wednesday following an alleged Cash-in-Transit robbery.
It is alleged that on Wednesday morning, a G4S armoured vehicle was traveling on Tirisano road between Ellaton and Jouberton when a vehicle suddenly bumped into it, bringing it to an abrupt halt. The driver and the crew were allegedly forced out of the vehicle by gunmen with rifles. They allegedly disarmed and instructed them to lie on the ground. They then blew-up the safe and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.
The multipronged team immediately launched a manhunt and the suspects were traced and arrested at a house in Neserhof within hours. The suspects were allegedly found in possession of an AK47, R5, LM5 and one of the 9mm pistols taken from the guards. Three vehicles with false registration plates were found at the house and an undisclosed amount of money was also recovered.
The suspects will make their first appearance before the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court on Friday facing charges of aggravated robbery, possession of explosives, possession of suspected stolen money and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
