KWAZULU-NATAL – A 19-year-old suspect is in custody following his arrest by Hawks members from Durban Serious Organised Crime unit yesterday. He was charged for a police murder which happened at Inanda area in Durban.

On Sunday, 7 February 2021 an off duty police official, Constable Sizwe Mthethwa stationed at Inanda police station was allegedly stabbed and killed by the suspect. Two victims were also stabbed during the incident and were taken to hospital for medical attention. The suspects allegedly stole the deceased’s cell phones.

It is alleged that Mthethwa was on his way to the suspect’s home to meet with the parents after a fight between the suspect and Mthethwa’s stepson. However, the suspect allegedly attacked them with a sharp object before they arrived.

A case of murder, attempted murder and theft was reported at Inanda police station and the case docket was allocated to Hawks members for intensive investigation. Members worked tirelessly as a result the suspect was traced and arrested yesterday.

He is expected to appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 15 February 2021.
