The Provincial Head of the Hawks in Kwazulu Natal, Major General Lesetja Senona applauded the investigating team following the conviction handed down to Raphule Kenneth Marole (33) on Tuesday, 16 February 2021.

He was convicted by the Durban Specialised Commercial Crime Court for corruption and impersonating a police officer. Marole masquerading as a ‘police colonel in December of 2016, he approached an investigating officer of a case he had vested interests on. The bogus policeman then offered the investigator R100 000 to derail the investigation.

The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation was kick-started resulting in a sting operation being successfully executed and Marole was arrested after an amount of R100 000 found in his possession was seized.
The case has been postponed to 07 April 2021 for a probation officer’s report and sentencing. Meanwhile, Asset Forfeiture Unit has already begun work to ensure that the seized cash is forfeited to the state.
