Pretoria –The Hawks’ Narcotics unit have on Thursday arrested four men who were linked to a recent theft at Cleveland police station in Johannesburg.
The officers were following up on a lead when three luxurious vehicles were spotted driving in a convoy along the N1 route near Carnal Walk. The vehicles were stopped and upon searching them, three handguns, several boxes of expensive whiskey and cigars were found in their possession of the suspects.
Among the arrested was a well-known former inmate and gang leader in the Cape flats, who is believed to be on parole.
The contraband worth millions of rand was confiscated in the process.
The quartet, aged between 20 and 60 years, has been charged with unlawful possession of firearms, illegal possession of ammunition and possession suspected stolen property.
They will appear at Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
