Orkney – At least one fatal incident has been reported so far following the earth tremor that hit different parts of South Africa.
An unidentified man in Kanana, Orkney, suffered from severe injuries after a wall fell on him this afternoon. He died before paramedics arrived at the scene.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring told SAnews on Tuesday that a man in his thirties has died due to the disaster. He said no other cases of injuries or death have been reported yet.
“The man had already succumbed to fatal injuries when ER24 paramedics got to the scene. He was walking with other men in the old Orkney mining area when the incident happened,” Meiring said.
He said the deceased’s name could not be announced yet, as the South African Police Service is dealing with the case.
The earthquake, which measured 5.3 on the Richter scale, reportedly affected parts of Gauteng, North West, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal and Free State.
