NORTH WEST: The Mmabatho High Court has on Tuesday, 14 March 2017 sentenced Dingaan Patrick Mandewo (44) to 17 years imprisonment without an option of a fine after he was found guilty of a spate of armed robberies, house breaking, murder and rape.
Mandewo terrorised the community of Mahikeng before the Hawks put a stop to his reign of terror on 25 November 2016 when he was arrested for a robbery he had committed at a nursing college.
In a separate matter two men, Liberty Nkiwani (32) and Nqobizitha Mhlanga (36) were both sentenced to two years direct imprisonment each following a guilty verdict by the Marikana Magistrate’s Court. The two men cut the roof of a Standard Bank branch, attempted to grind an ATM but were disturbed and fled the scene before they could complete their illegal mission. They were later arrested in Germiston, Gauteng.
North West Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Major General Linda Mbana applauded the investigating officers who investigated both cases thoroughly and attained convictions. “We do not only apprehend suspects but it is our duty to ensure that justice is served and it is convictions like these ones that motivate our members and also keep the trust that the people have in the Hawks”, said Major General Mbana.
