LIMPOPO: The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Crime unit has arrested three police officers and rearrested another for alleged corruption on Wednesday, January 31.
The two Constables aged 31 and 32 stationed at Mahwelereng and Mokopane SAPS respectively will join Constable Nkholo Samuel Baloyi (38), who was arrested last week in Mahwelereng for corruption and he has since been released on R1000 bail.
Their arrest follows an ongoing investigation wherein the complainant alleged that they came to his shop in Mahwelereng and demanded a bribe for operating a shop without a license. The complainant further alleged that the suspects took R400 in his shop before they left.
The suspects will appear before Mahwelereng Magistrate Court on Friday to face corruption charges and Baloyi is expected to appear at court on February 16.
Meanwhile, a 50 year old Warrant Officer and a 40 year old Sergeant stationed at Pienaarsrivier SAPS were arrested in Pienaarsrivier for alleged corruption. The complainant alleged that he was stopped by the suspects on the N1 road near Pienaarsrivier during May 2016. The complainant further alleged that the suspects stole R10 000 from his car following a search.
The suspects were arrested after lengthy investigations by the Hawks. One of the suspects, a 40 year old Sergeant was arrested on 10 January 2018 for a similar offense where he allegedly demanded R20 000 and stole R210 000 from the car he had stopped and searched on the N1 and he was released on R1000 together with his accomplice. Both suspects are expected to appear before Belabela Magistrate Court on Friday.
