The Hawks’ Serious Corruption have arrested Lieutenant Colonel Wilfred Victor Mtshali for corruption and defeating the ends of justice in Kwazulu Natal.
Lieutenant Colonel Mtshali was nabbed on Tuesday after he allegedly demanded R10 000 bribe money from a prominent business woman in KZN in order for him to assist her in investigating a house breaking and theft, corruption, pointing of firearm, and impersonation of a miner inspector cases which she had opened at Dundee police station earlier this year.
An entrapment operation was conducted and Lieutenant Colonel Mtshali received the money from the complainant and later returned it. Despite that, the Senior Public Prosecutor issued a warrant of arrest and he was arrested whilst on duty and charged with corruption and defeating the ends of justice.
Lieutenant Colonel Mtshali made a brief appearance before the Dundee Magistrates Court on Tuesday and granted bail of R2000. The case was postponed to 13 January 2017 for further investigation.
