Pretoria – A 33-year-old man from Kwazakhele in Port Elizabeth will appear before the Motherwell Magistrate’s Court on Monday after he was arrested for dealing in mandrax on Thursday.

The Hawks in the Eastern Cape have been on the suspect’s radar for some time now and when his white conquest was spotted at Truckers Inn in Motherwell on Thursday morning, the Hawks did not need second invitation before pouncing on him. Upon searching his vehicle the Hawks found 28 000 mandrax tablets wrapped in two boxes which were hidden inside a black sports bag. The mandrax recovered was valued at R1.4 million.

The suspect’s cellphone and a vehicle were also seized. The Hawks in the Eastern Cape have recovered over 70 000 mandrax tablets in the last couple of months and the quest to dismantle a syndicate which transports mandrax to Port Elizabeth continues.
