LIMPOPO- Miyelani Carol Maswanganyi (43) has appeared in the Hlanganani Magistrate Court on Wednesday, 22 March 2017 for operating a chemist without a licence, a direct contravention of Act 101 of 1965 sec 22a (1) of medicines and related substances.
Hawks Commercial Crime Unit conducted an intelligence driven operation in August 2016. During the operation, two bogus chemists were identified in Sekororo and Mamaila Villages and were closed down. The owner of Sekororo bogus chemist was arrested during the operation but Maswanganyi, who owns a bogus chemist at Mamaila village, could not be found.
The manhunt for the suspect was launched and later she was located. The suspect was then summoned to appear before Hlanganani Magistrate Court on 22 March 2017. Operations are still being conducted around the Province to check for other unlicensed chemists.
Maswanganyi will be back at court on 5 April 2017.
