KWAZULU-NATAL – Two suspects aged 37 and 61 are due to appear in the Durban Magistrates’ Court for possession of ivory (tusks) at Marine Parade in Durban today.

The two were arrested yesterday during a joint operation conducted by Hawks members from Durban Serious Organised Crime unit, Point Task Team and Umlazi Tactical Response Team.

Members received information about the suspects who were in possession of the elephant tusks. They kept observation along North Beach and suspects’ vehicle was spotted in front of a hotel. They then approached the suspects and searched the vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle four elephant tusks were found.

The two were subsequently arrested and charged accordingly.
