NORTH WEST – Loyisa Nxiwa (25) made a brief appearance before the Viljoenskroon Magistrate’s Court on Friday for attempted murder in a foiled gold mine armed robbery that took place in February 2021.
It is alleged that Nxiwa was part of an armed gang that attempted to rob a gold mine in Viljoenskroon. They allegedly gained entry into the mine by cutting the fence, then made their way to the smelt house where they broke a wall to gain access.
The suspects allegedly started firing shots when they spotted security officers approaching, then fled the scene. Investigations continued leading to the arrest of three accused in the following weeks.
Nxiwa is the fourth to be arrested. Meanwhile, his matter was postponed to 10 May 2021 where he will be joined in court by his co-accused.
