NORTHERN CAPE – The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) members swiftly acted on information about a vehicle allegedly transporting abalone from Cape Town to Namibia, through Springbok, via the Vioolsdrift Port of Entry.

On Tuesday, 14 February 2017, search teams were despatched on all possible routes and a vehicle matching the disruption provided was found abandoned outside Steinkopf. The Isuzu bakkie with a South African registration number was parked on the gravel road near N7 highway.

Upon conducting a search, R 2.4 million worth of abalone was discovered on the back of the bakkie. The vehicle was taken for further investigation. A search is on for suspects and arrest is imminent.
