CDP questions Hlaudi Motsoeneng’s appointment
“Is it not ironic that, on the same day Hlaudi Motsoeneng is called an enemy of media freedom in Die Burger’s editorial, it was announced that he had been permanently appointed in the position of Chief Operational Officer of the SABC.” says Christian Democratic Party (CDP) leader, Rev. Theunis Botha.
“In the context of the Public Protector’s report calling Motsoeneng a liar, amongst other things, for falsely stating that he had matric, his appointment makes a mockery of the ANC’s commitment that its cadre deployment policy will be merit driven.
“Motsoeneng has frequently ridiculed the very profession which he is supposed to serve, by for eg stating that the SABC should broadcast seventy percent good news, and that journalists should be licensed – a licence he would, by the way, never qualify for.
“This appointment convinces us that the ANC government is seriously attempting to accelerate the pace of making a banana republic out of South Africa.”

“Ironies, op dieselfde dag as wat Die Burger Hlaudi Motsoeneng in ‘n hoofartikel, ‘n vyand van mediavryheid noem, het dit bekend geword dat hy permanent in die pos van Operasionele Hoof van die SAUK aangestel is,” sê ds. Theunis Botha, leier van die Christen-Demokratiese Party (CDP).
“Teen die agtergrond daarvan dat die Openbare Beskermer in haar verslag vir Motsoeneng onder ander ‘n leuenaar genoem het omdat hy valslik voorgegee het dat hy matriek het, maak sy aanstelling ‘n klug van die ANC-regering se onderneming dat sy kaderbeleid deur meriete gerugsteun sal word.
“Motsoeneng het nou al verskeie kere die professie wat hy veronderstel is om te dien, belaglik gemaak deur voorstelle soos dat die SAUK sewentig persent goeie nuus moet uitsaai, en dat joernaliste gelisensieer moet word – ‘n lisensie wat hy self nooit sal kan verwerf nie.
“Die aanstelling oortuig ons dat die ANC-regering erns maak daarvan om die land teen ‘n versnelde tempo in ‘n piesangrepubliek te omskep.”
