The third day of the Curro Junior ITF tennis tournament in Stellenbosch produced some scintillating action.Lance-Pierre Du Toit of Boland, South Africa won through to Thursday’s quarterfinals of the boys singles of the Curro ITF 1 being played at the Stellenbosch University. Du Toit seeded 7 battled past fellow country man Rossouw Norval 7-5 4-6 7-5 in round 3 on Wednesday. Du Toit will now face 3rd seeded Ien Schouten of The Netherlands in the last eight.
In the girls’ draw top seeds Minette van Vreden, Lexie Stevens from Holland, fourth seeded Adrienn Nagy from Hungary and Amelie Boy fifth seed from Mauritius are all through to the quarterfinals of the first junior tournament. Number one seed Van Vreden will now face Boy in the round of eight, while Stevens will come up against Holly Fischer from Britain.
Megan Lombardi (8th seed) battled for some two hours against Angela Georgieva to win her third round match 4-6, 6-3 and 6-2 for a place in the quarterfinal against Nagy.

Lombardi seeded 8 battled past fellow country man Angela Georgieva 4-6 6-3 6-2 in round 2 on Wednesday. Lombardi will now face 4th seeded Adrienn Nagy of Hungary in the last eight.The match of the day was played by seventh seed Lance-Pierre du Toit and unseeded Rossouw Norval. The match lasted just more than three hours and Du Toit had to save two match points before clinching the humdinger 7-5, 4-6 and 7-5. What impressed most besides the boys’ fitness, determination, fighting spirit and general stroke-play was their sportsmanship. There were so many crucial points in this match and having to rely on your opponent for honest calling is vital for the fairness of the match. The match was played in a great spirit and both players left it all on the court. Du Toit will now play third seed Ien Schouten from Holland.
Second seed Joshua Howard-Tripp barely build up a sweat in his win over Aaron Marks (14th seed). The match lasted just an hour and Howard-Tripp won 6-0, 6-0.
