Mandela Day is more than a celebration of Madiba’s life and legacy. It is a global movement to honour his life’s work and act to change the world for the better, just as Madiba gave 67 years fighting for humanity.
The VKB Knights in partnership with Twizza, PWC and Thabo Mofutsanyana Cricket District supported Mandela Day by donating blankets to learners in need.
Martie Du Plessis is a special needs school in the heart of the Free State, following the mainstream curriculum. They cater to the needs of learning disabled, physically disabled and cerebral palsy learners and ensure that they give each child the best chance of success. The interventions to rebuild these shattered dreams of learners and parents start with giving each child and parent a little bit of hope. Currently the school is assisting 120 underprivileged families.
The VKB Knights team of Nicky Boje (Head Coach), Alan Kruger (Assistant Coach), Michael Erlank, Dillon Du Preez and Lwandiswe Zuma contributed through the legacy of Nelson Mandela by providing blankets to the learners on Mandela Day during the schools morning assembly.
Head Coach Nicky Boje addressed the learners during assembly: “We are honoured and privileged to join in the Mandela Day initiative. There are so many things we often take for granted and a good, safe and warm home is fundamental for any child’s social and physical potential. By donating warm blankets we can hopefully assist by making these learners feel comfortable and safe. Thank you to all involved and our best wishes and blessings to the teachers who really make the difference and bring hope by creating the best opportunities for the learners entrusted to them.
“Together we identify with our first democratic elected President that ‘What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is the difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead’
