Numsa strike deplored – CDP
“The Christian Democratic Party (CDP) condemns the upcoming Numsa strike, but is not at all surprised that it is imminent”, says CDP leader, Rev.Theunis Botha.
“It is clear that the annual strike season has commenced, which this year will be even more damaging than in the past, due to the relative success of the Amcu-strike.
“Striking has now become a way not only to improve wages and working conditions, but has also become a battle field for political power amongst competing unions. “The African proverb says, ‘When two elephants fight, it is the grass that gets trampled’ In this case it is the fragile South African economy that is being trampled under-foot by these unions motivated by self-interest. “All responsible parties must now do all they can to adjust our laws to bring the right to strike on a par with the right to work. Irresponsible union actions affect our ability to attract investment and causes irreparable damage to our economy resulting in not only job losses but acts as a restraint on creating new job opportunities.”
