Bloemfontein: The Hawks in the Free State, in conjunction with Head Office Serious Organised Crime Unit and Crime Intelligence have arrested a 32 year old woman after she was found in possession of gold bearing material and more than one million cash in Welkom on Tuesday afternoon.
Information was received that there was large sum of money as well as gold bearing material at a house in Diaas Street 4 Dagbreek. When officers arrived at the house they found a woman and upon executing the search warrant, a 50kg of gold bearing material, gold processing equipment’s as well as R1 082,400 in cash were found in the house. The cash was hidden inside an old geyser next to the house. A vehicle Toyota D4D Fortuner and the cash were subsequently seized. Investigation continues and more arrests are eminent.
The suspect will appear before the Welkom Magistrate’s Court today, Wednesday 15 June 2016, facing charge of acquisition, possession, disposal of unwrought precious metal.
