EASTERN CAPE – Three armed robbers who had become a menace to the Mthatha community have had their reign of terror cut short after they were sentenced to a combined 45 years in jail.
Sabelo Malgas (36) and Mncedi Mondliwa (33), were sentenced to 30 years direct imprisonment each whilst Andile Maguma (39) was sentenced to 15 years direct imprisonment on Friday the 07 February 2020 by Mthatha Regional court for a string of 10 armed robberies.
The trio launched a string of attacks in and around Mthatha from January until his arrest in March 2010, terrorising business people and committed violent house robberies. During their arrest they were arrested and were found in possession of three illegal 9mm pistols and ammunition.
The National Head of the DPCI Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya has commended and welcomed the guilty verdict handed down by the Mthatha Regional court against the three armed robbers.
“For the past 10 years, this matter has been on the court roll. The convictions and sentences of the three accused on Friday, 07 February 2020 is welcomed. The ten case dockets on which the three accused were charged are now offloaded from the investigation team’s workload. It makes the load lighter in order to focus on other equally demanding tasks. I commend the work of the investigators and prosecutors on this outstanding and well deserved conviction. The community in Mthatha is much safer from the trio.”
