EASTERN CAPE: Boniface Mwachande (30), Winnie Mazengela (19) and Andries Nel (44) appeared before Kariega Magistrates court on 16 September 2024, for allegations of operating a fish processing establishment without a permit. The trio was arrested by the Gqeberha based Serious Organised Crime Investigation’s (SOCI) Economic Protected Resources (EPR) of the Hawks jointly with Dark Water Operations team and Kariega Local Criminal Record Centre members on 13 September 2024 at 23:00.
The team followed information about the abalone operation of a syndicate at Scheepers Heights, Kariega. Upon arrival at the said house, 5896 units of dried abalone and fish processing equipment were seized. The total cash value of the abalone with equipment is worth more than R2 million.
The trio appeared in Kariega Magistrates court on 16 September 2024.The matter is remanded to 27 September 2024 for formal bail application.
