The Mamelodi West Parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Southern Africa, Pretoria Circuit, to host Charity Day on Saturday, 10 September 2016.

Background

Recognizing the role of charity in alleviating humanitarian crises, poverty and human suffering among nations, the United Nations (UN) passed a resolution which designate the 5th of September as the International Day of Charity. This day is also the anniversary of the death of Mother Theresa.

In line with this UN resolution, the Ekukhanyeni Lutheran Church will commemorate this day by assisting congregants, in the Ekukhanyeni and Bernard Serote Churches, who are less fortunate and require assistance to improve the quality of their lives.

This congregation has a significant number of orphans who are supported with food parcels on a quarterly basis. Hence the 10th of September is set aside to host Charity Day for the Mamelodi West Parish. The day will start with devotional service and a keynote address by the Deputy Minister of Health Dr Joe Phaahla and other motivational speakers. Thereafter food parcels, mattresses, blankets and wheelchairs will be handed over to the identified needy.
