Pretoria – A suspect was fatally wounded during a shoot-out between the police and three suspects, who had robbed employees of a security company who were collecting money from a grocery store in Nongoma on Monday morning.

Three men allegedly disarmed the security officer who was on his way from the store to the van and grabbed the money box from him before instructing the driver of the security van to open the door.

When the driver refused to open the door, the suspects fired shots at the van. The shots alerted the police who were nearby and they rushed to the scene. At the sight of the police officers, the suspects shot at the law enforcers and a shoot-out ensued.

One suspect was fatally wounded and an AK-47 was found in his possession. The other suspect was arrested while the third suspect managed to escape with an amount of R36 000,00. A white Jetta 5, which the suspects used in their mission, was recovered.

Later on Monday evening, the police followed up information on the same robbery and the second shoot-out ensued.

This time around, four suspects, who were driving a Toyota Corolla that had been reported stolen in Mondlo, exchanged fire with the police. Three suspects, one of them injured, were arrested and the police are hot on the heels of the fourth one. The injured suspect was admitted to a local hospital and is under police guard.

The arrested suspects will appear in court soon.
