A Prominent lawyer is expected to appear at the Mthatha Magistrate Court today on allegations of fraud.
The 46 year old suspect was arrested by the Hawks’ Mthatha Serious Commercial Crime investigators at a local hotel on Wednesday after he was served with a warrant of arrest.
It is understood that in 2016 the suspect allegedly submitted a false claim to the Department of Health on behalf of a mother, asserting that she gave birth to a child who suffered severe injuries due to negligence by hospital nurses.
He allegedly claimed almost R13 million on behalf of the supposed mother. The matter was reported to the Hawks and investigations revealed that the claim was false. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain his involvement into the same alleged tricks countrywide.
